Jose has been
involved in a wide range of projects, from electronics, to furniture,
to exhibits, to buildings. He brings over 16 years of experience in both the
practical and theoretical areas of architecture, science and industrial design. He holds 10 patents and has received several
awards for both his architectural and product design work, and
maintains a strong alliance to both disciplines. Prior to establishing MADLAB, Jose worked as senior designer with Ralph Appelbaum Associates and Hixon Design Associates, on projects such as National Constitution Center, Country Music Hall of Fame and Pfizer Headquarters.
Jose is also co-founder of
RELAB (Renewable Energy
Laboratory), a team of architects, industrial
designers, engineers, energy specialists and LEED accredited professionals. RELAB
provides architects, engineers, developers and manufacturers with full
renewable energy system design services, consulting services,
microclimate studies, resource studies and feasibility/cost studies
with specialization in Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) and
Building Integrated Wind projects. Projects such as The Solaire and The Helena residential towers are just two high-profile examples of RELAB's expertise in sophisticated custom design integration. RELAB, along with its sister company
altPOWER, Inc., also offers turnkey design and install services.
As
an educator, he previously held a teaching position at the University
of Arkansas School of Architecture and currently holds positions both
at Pratt Institute's Industrial Design department in New York and at
the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark, where he is currently
Interim Director of its new department of Industrial Design within the
School of
Architecture.
